While negotiations between the US and Iran continue, Israel has increased the range and operational capability of its F-35I fighter jets by adding additional fuel tanks and missile capacity, further escalating tensions in the Middle East.

The Israeli Ambassador to the U.S., Yechiel Leiter, announced that in light of regional tensions and ongoing negotiations with Iran, his country has increased the flight range of its F-35I fighter jets and expanded their munitions load. In this context, it was stated that additional fuel tanks have been installed on the jets and four extra missile capacities have been provided on the wings. This step aims to allow the aircraft to reach farther targets without refueling in the air.

ONLY IN ISRAEL'S FLEET IN THE WORLD

Leiter stated that these developments were realized as a result of joint work with Lockheed Martin. Israeli media reported that this special design is found only in Israel's F-35 fleets worldwide and has been in development for a long time.

AMMUNITION CAPACITY INCREASED

Experts indicate that such updates increase the ammunition and range capacity of fifth-generation fighter jets like the F-35 and strengthen overall operational capability. It is noted that the integration of new air-to-air and air-to-ground missiles with the F-35s is planned within the current modernization framework, thereby providing a broader mission profile.

For example, integration tests for long-range air-to-air missiles like Meteor are ongoing, and this is considered an important step that will enhance the aircraft's air superiority capability. Israel's initiative makes the role of the F-35s even more critical in regional air defense balances and potential conflict scenarios.
