Three major wildfires that occurred in the state of California in the past week have affected a large area. The size of the fire was captured by a passenger on an airplane. Those who saw the extent of the disaster commented, "It looked like a nuclear bomb had exploded," "I thought it was a scene from a Hollywood movie." FIRE HAS DESTROYED OVER 100,000 ACRESAccording to data from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE), the "Bridge" fire that started on September 8 in the Angeles National Forest east of Los Angeles is rapidly spreading and threatening Los Angeles and San Bernardino County. This fire has also reached the Mountain High Ski Resort. At least 33 homes have been engulfed in flames in the Mount Baldy and Wrightwood villages, and 2,500 structures are at risk. So far, over 49,000 acres have been burned. 5 FIREFIGHTERS AND 2 CIVILIANS INJUREDThe "Line" fire that started on September 5 has spread to an area of 34,729 acres, and only 14% of it has been contained. Another major fire in the state, the "Airport" fire, started in Orange County on September 9 and spread to Riverside County. This fire has burned 22,376 acres so far, threatens 10,500 structures, and has resulted in 5 firefighters and 2 civilians being injured. To combat the fires, 51 firefighting helicopters, 9 aircraft, 520 fire engines, 75 bulldozers, and 141 water tankers are being used. Additionally, the San Bernardino police have arrested a 34-year-old man on suspicion of starting the fires.
