A woman in Kayseri attacked a pharmacy after being asked to pay a difference fee. The pharmacists reacted to the woman's assault, during which she threw stones and kicked the pharmacy's windows.

A woman, who allegedly did not want to pay the difference fee at a pharmacy in Kayseri, kicked and threw stones at the business's windows. Those moments were recorded by a mobile phone and security cameras.

The incident occurred yesterday afternoon at a pharmacy on Muhsin Yazıcıoğlu Boulevard in the Şeker neighborhood of the Kocasinan district. According to the allegation, a woman who did not want to pay the difference fee attacked the pharmacy's windows with stones and kicked its doors.

ATTACKED THE PHARMACY

Those moments were captured by a nearby citizen's mobile phone camera and the pharmacy's security cameras. In the footage, the woman can be heard saying, "unjust provocation, this is called unjust provocation. I am a lawyer. The police will come. I went to the police station. What are you filming me for? My image is being taken unjustly. My image is being recorded. I will report all of this to the police. My photo will not be taken. Next time that baby will die. What are you filming me for?" The camera recording also showed the woman throwing a stone at the pharmacy window and saying, "Here’s 50 lira for you."

RESPONSE FROM THE PHARMACISTS' CHAMBER

The 12th Region Kayseri Pharmacists' Chamber published a condemnation message following the incident. The message stated, "Yesterday, at a pharmacy operating in our city, an ignorant person attacked the pharmacy with stones in an act of aggression to avoid paying the difference fee, while our pharmacist had their child in their arms, and then punched and kicked the window. This is not only an open attack on one of our colleagues but also a clear assault on the health services of the community. We strongly condemn this ugly incident and express to the public that it is unacceptable.

Pharmacies are the first health points that citizens turn to under all circumstances and even during disasters, 24/7. Pharmacists are not just people who dispense medication; they are health professionals who provide consultation in patient treatment, ensure medication safety, and bear the burden of the health system. Nevertheless, the increasing violence against healthcare workers in recent years and the extension of this violence to pharmacies has reached a very concerning and unacceptable level," the statement included.

"CONTRIBUTION FEES ARE NOT PRACTICES DETERMINED AT THE DISCRETION OF PHARMACISTS"

The statement mentioned that a citizen throwing stones at the pharmacy was not just an outburst of anger but an open threat and vandalism directed at those providing health services:

"A stone thrown at a pharmacy's window does not only break a window; it also damages the sense of security of healthcare workers, their professional dignity, and the trust bond between the community and healthcare workers. Here, we want to clearly express to the public that the difference fees, contribution fees, or fees related to the reimbursement system in pharmacies are not practices determined at the discretion of pharmacists. These payments are entirely legal obligations determined by social security legislation and the reimbursement system. Pharmacists are not the decision-makers of this system, but its implementers."
