At Kayseri Erkilet Airport, the Turkish Airlines flight from Kayseri to Istanbul began accepting passengers at 03:45. Allegedly, one of the passengers, Gediz Solgançok, told the cabin chief as he boarded the plane, 'You didn't upgrade me. We will bomb your plane.'
WORDS DISTURBED THE FLIGHT
Some passengers who heard these words experienced panic over a terrorist act. A scuffle broke out among some passengers. When some passengers wanted to disembark, the pilot reported the situation to the law enforcement authorities. Gediz Solgançok was detained, and the plane took off 54 minutes late. After his statement, Solgançok was released to be tried without detention. The investigation conducted by the Kayseri Chief Public Prosecutor's Office was completed, and a case was filed against Solgançok for 'hijacking or seizing means of transportation,' with a request for a prison sentence of 5 to 10 years.
"I DID IT FOR PURELY HUMOROUS REASONS"
In the second hearing of the case held at the Kayseri 12th Criminal Court of First Instance, the defendant Gediz Solgançok did not attend, while his lawyer was present in the courtroom. In the first hearing, he stated, "I did it purely for humorous reasons. I only told the flight attendant. We laughed, and I sat back down. 15 minutes later, they sent me to give a statement with the police. There was no fight or raised voices or any argument until I got off the plane. If I had known that this situation was a crime, I would never have said such a thing. I apologized multiple times. I regret it; I did not do it intentionally. I did it as a joke and for humor. I request my acquittal," said Gediz Solgançok, who was sentenced to 1 year in prison for the crime of 'taking on a crime' under Article 270/1 of the Turkish Penal Code. Later, considering the defendant's behavior during the trial process and the effects of the sentence on his future, a 'good behavior' reduction was applied. Solgançok was sentenced to 10 months in prison, while the announcement of the verdict was postponed.
