The details of the primary election to determine the presidential candidate of the CHP have been announced. It has been stated that 1 million 650 thousand members will vote in the primary election; Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who has received the signatures of 116 members of parliament, will be the sole candidate.
The CHP will hold a pre-election with organizational control on March 23 to determine its presidential candidate, where 1 million 650 thousand party members will vote. The sole candidate for the election is the Mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem İmamoğlu.
After CHP Chairman Özgür Özel announced during the party's parliamentary group meeting on January 28 that they would determine the presidential candidate for the next general elections through an organization-controlled pre-election, the number of members who will go to the polls became clear.
1 MILLION 650 THOUSAND MEMBERS WILL VOTE
According to the schedule outlined in the "Presidential Candidate Organization-Controlled Pre-Election Directive" prepared by the authorized bodies of the CHP, membership applications for voting rights ended on February 28 at 17:00.
According to information obtained from party sources, after the decision for the pre-election was made, 150 thousand new members joined the CHP, gaining the right to vote. Thus, 1 million 650 thousand CHP members will go to the polls to determine the party's presidential candidate for the next general elections.
ELECTORAL LISTS AND BALLOTS ARE BEING PREPARED
According to the pre-election schedule, as of today, the printing of electoral lists for members eligible to vote has begun by the CHP General Secretariat.
The process will continue on Thursday, March 13, with the sending of the printed electoral lists to the district chairmanships, where changes in the number of polling stations will be reported to the central committee, and the identification of the presidents and members to be assigned to the polling stations will be carried out by the district chairmanships.
According to the pre-election schedule, on Friday, March 14, the printed ballots will be sent to the district chairmanships along with other voting tools.
The announcement of the electoral lists, the start of objections to the lists, and the announcement of the number of polling stations and voting locations by the central committee will take place on Sunday, March 16.
OBJECTIONS WILL BE DISCUSSED ON MARCH 21
On Tuesday, March 18, the electoral lists will be removed from the notice board. On Thursday, March 20, a draw will be held among the names reported by candidates or representatives for polling station membership. On the same day, the formation of polling stations will be completed.
According to the schedule, on Friday, March 21, the objections made to the electoral lists by the central committee will be resolved. On Sunday, March 23, CHP members who have gained the right to vote in the pre-election will go to the polls to determine the party's presidential candidate for the next general elections.
IMAMOĞLU IS THE SOLE CANDIDATE
In the organization-controlled pre-election, Ekrem İmamoğlu, the Mayor of Istanbul, who has the signatures of 116 members of parliament, will be the sole candidate.
