Working parents are struggling to find caregivers for their children. There is a high demand for Filipino caregivers, whose salaries range from $1200 to $2200. Some families are willing to offer up to $1000 raise to prevent caregivers from quitting their jobs. Here are the details...
Working parents continue to spend a fortune on the care of their children. The increasing demand for Filipino caregivers has led to salaries rising up to $2200.
'WE CAN PROVIDE 200 CAREGIVERS ON THE SAME DAY'
Olcay Nazlı Karakuş, the owner of a Filipino caregiver company, emphasized that there is a high demand for caregivers in Turkey and stated:
There is a high demand for caregivers in Turkey, especially for Filipino caregivers. If we had 200 Filipino caregivers, we would provide all of them on the same day. They are among the top preferences of families. The most important reason is that they speak English and they are disciplined and have been working for a long time.
WE RECEIVE OVER 500 CALLS A DAY
No one wants to constantly work with a new caregiver so that their children's psychology does not get affected. As a company, we receive over 500 calls a day, but we can't keep up. Salaries range from $1200 to $1800. I had a caregiver that I sent to Denizli, she was working for $1200, but when she wanted to leave, her salary was increased to $2200 just so she wouldn't go. Everything related to food and drink belongs to the family as well."
'THEIR PHONES ARE ALWAYS IN THEIR HANDS'
A mother who has been struggling to find a caregiver for her 3-year-old daughter expressed that she has been searching for a caregiver for months.
The mother, stating that it has become almost impossible to find Turkish caregivers, said, 'I have worked with Turkmen and Uzbek caregivers, but they seem like they have come to the world just to talk on the phone, their phones never leave their hands. I pay them 35,000 TL, I provide their insurance. I treat them better than they deserve because I am entrusting my child to these people, but nothing changes. When we demand that they take better care of the child, they run away. A caregiver is a big problem for working families.'
CAREGIVERS ALSO COMPLAIN ABOUT FAMILIES
H.A., who has been working as a baby caregiver for many years in Bursa, said, 'I started working as a child caregiver for many families. At first, they say to you, 'You will only take care of the child,' but then they expect help with household chores as well. Requests for cooking, ironing, cleaning, etc. never end. However, when I started the job, there was no such thing, and you can't say anything because you need the job. I also entered my last job to take care of the baby, but they also expected me to do household chores and there was no change in the salary, so I left.'
