Turkey has been discussing the murder of 17-year-old Atlas Çağlayan by a 15-year-old boy for days in Istanbul. The mother, Gülhan Çağlayan, who is seeking justice, announced that she has been threatened.
STABBED ATLAS IN THE CHEST
On January 14 in the Emek Street of Mehmet Nesih Özmen Neighborhood in the Güngören district of Istanbul, a dispute broke out between two groups who were previously unknown to each other due to an allegation of 'looking sideways' around 20:20. In the incident, which quickly escalated into a knife fight, E.Ç (15) injured Atlas Çağlayan in the chest with a knife described as a switchblade. Heavily injured, Atlas Çağlayan was taken to Bağcılar Training and Research Hospital by an ambulance called to the scene. Despite all the interventions made here, Çağlayan could not be saved.
THREAT TO THE MOTHER: WE WILL BURY YOU NEXT TO YOUR SON
In her first statement, mother Gülhan Çağlayan expressed her desire for justice, while in her subsequent statement, she revealed that she had been threatened. According to Burak Doğan's report; mother Çağlayan said, "Today I started receiving threatening messages. The messages say exactly this, 'We killed your son Atlas, now it's your turn. We will bury you next to your son.' I will not bow to these threats."
STATEMENT OF THE SUSPECTED KILLER CHILD REVEALED
The 15-year-old E.Ç., who caused Atlas's death by stabbing him, has been arrested. In his statement to the prosecutor's office, E.Ç. claimed that they were insulted.
"HE SAID 'WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT', I STABBED HIM ONCE IN THE STOMACH"
E.Ç. stated in his prosecutor's testimony, "On the date of the incident, I went to a café in Güngören with my friends A.A.H., S.Y., and M. After leaving the café with my friends, while I was in front of the café, Atlas Çağlayan, whose name I learned as a result of the incident, came up to me and cursed, saying 'what are you looking at.' He approached me. I took out the knife I had and swung it. I stabbed him once in the stomach. After that, they laid the child on the ground. My friends who were with me also assaulted and insulted me. I started to wait there. My friend A.A.H. told me to give him the knife, so I handed him the knife I had. While he was holding the knife, those in the café told him to throw the knife on the ground. My friend threw the knife on the ground. When the police arrived, they caught me in the café. They took the knife. I accept the accusations as I have described, as I did not know Atlas Çağlayan before."
