A trial has begun regarding the murder of Fatma and Gülcan Alıç, sisters who were killed in Kahramanmaraş in 2005 and buried in the garden of a villa. Four defendants, two of whom are in custody, appeared before the judge for the first time. One of the defendants, Mevlüt Doğan, accepted the charges and confessed to committing the murders. However, during the hearing, he denied the accusations and claimed that the murders were committed by Behçet Yediminareli.
In Kahramanmaraş, Fatma Alıç (31) and her sister Gülcan Alıç (24) were murdered in 2005, and four defendants, two of whom are in custody, appeared before the judge for the first time regarding the case in which they were buried in the garden of a country house. Behçet Yediminareli (63), who lived with Gülcan Alıç in a religious marriage, claimed that the murders were committed by his cousin Mevlüt Doğan (60), while the defendant Doğan said, "I took the blame upon myself so that they wouldn't beat me at the police station. What I said is just what I imagined in my head."
In Kahramanmaraş, the Asayiş Branch Directorate reopened the missing persons case of sisters Fatma and Gülcan Alıç, who disappeared in 2005, upon the application of their relatives. As no trace of the sisters could be found, it was evaluated that they might have fallen victim to murder, and a special team was established by the Homicide Bureau. The special team began to follow Behçet Yediminareli, who lived with Gülcan Alıç in a religious marriage, and his cousin Mevlüt Doğan, whom they suspected due to their actions.
THE SISTERS' BONES WERE FOUND
Mevlüt Doğan was detained on November 6, 2024. In his interrogation, Mevlüt Doğan confessed to his crime, stating that after killing the sisters, they buried them in the garden of the country house, and the bones of the two sisters were found at the location he indicated. A day after the confession, Behçet Yediminareli, along with Y.K., who lived with him in a religious marriage, and his sister A.K., were also detained. After their procedures at the police station, the suspects Doğan and his cousin Yediminareli were arrested, while the Kaba siblings were released under judicial control. As Mevlüt Doğan was taken to prison, he told reporters, "I killed both of them."
ACCORDING TO THE INDICTMENT, MEVLÜT KILLED GÜLCAN, BEHÇET KILLED FATMA
At the end of the investigation, a case was opened at the 4th Heavy Penal Court against four people for the crime of 'deliberately killing multiple people for the same reason' with a request for aggravated life imprisonment. In the indictment, it was stated that on March 30, 2005, Behçet Yediminareli asked his cousin Mevlüt Doğan to interrogate Gülcan Alıç, whose hands and feet were tied, to find out if she was deceiving him. When Gülcan Alıç did not speak in the country house, she was strangled to death by Mevlüt Doğan. Yediminareli also strangled Fatma Alıç with a steel wire clothesline, saying, "Let's not leave a witness behind." It was noted that A.K. and Y.K. incited the commission of the crime due to their provocative actions before the incident and their acts of concealing evidence afterward.
THE FIRST HEARING OF THE CASE WAS HELD
The first hearing of the case, in which four defendants, two of whom are in custody, were tried, was held at the 4th Heavy Penal Court. The hearing was attended by the detained defendants Behçet Yediminareli, Mevlüt Doğan, and the non-detained defendants A.K. and Y.K., as well as the siblings of the murdered Fatma and Gülcan Alıç. In his defense, Behçet Yediminareli stated that the murders were committed by Mevlüt Doğan and that Y.K. and A.K. had no connection to the incident.
'MEVLÜT WAS DIGGING A GRAVE AFTER COMPLETING HIS ACTION'
Behçet Yediminareli, who did not accept his statements at the police and prosecutor's office, claimed that on the day of the incident, he went to the country house with Mevlüt Doğan, Gülcan Alıç, Fatma Alıç, and the children to graft trees, and later he left. He stated, "At one point, I received a call from Mevlüt, and he told me that he had killed the two sisters. I was in shock; I asked him why he did such a thing, but he did not give me any explanation. I called Gülcan, but I couldn't get a response. After that, I went to the country house, and when I arrived, Mevlüt had completed his action and was digging a grave. When I looked at the country house, I saw the sisters lifeless in separate rooms. I asked again why he killed them, but I still didn't get an answer. I slapped Mevlüt a few times out of anger and shock. In response, Mevlüt threatened me, saying that we had committed the murder together, and I didn't know what to do. I was very scared," he said.
'WHEN I LEFT THE COUNTRY HOUSE, THE WOMEN WERE STANDING STRONG'
Mevlüt Doğan, in his defense, accused his cousin Behçet Yediminareli. He stated that he was digging holes to plant saplings in the country house and that his cousin had been drinking alcohol. Doğan said, "I drank too much and was about to pass out, so Behçet put me in the car and took me home. When I left the country house, the women were standing strong. I don't know what Behçet did afterward. However, my guess is that it was Behçet who killed the sisters. My basis for this is the statements in the file. Behçet has been sending me money and suggesting that he will take care of my family," he said.
'IT'S ALL A SETUP'
When the presiding judge reminded Doğan of his statements admitting to the murders, Doğan said, "I took the blame upon myself so that they wouldn't beat me at the police station. What I said is just what I imagined in my head. The statements I gave to the police and the prosecutor do not reflect the truth; it's all a setup. What I am saying now is the absolute truth. I did not see Behçet kill the women; that is just my assumption. In fact, I initially pointed to the wrong place where the bodies were found; I did not do this on purpose because I really did not know the location of the bodies. The police detained me and took me to another place. They asked, 'Did you work here?' and I talked about planting saplings, and then I guessed where the bodies were found. I added the detail of strangulation to the lies I told, thinking, 'This is how it must have been done.' I included this in my statements," he said. Y.K. and A.K. also stated that they had no connection to the murders and did not incite anyone, denying the accusations. The court panel decided on the detention of Behçet Yediminareli and Mevlüt Doğan and postponed the hearing.
