Mevlüt Yüca, who established a cultural mushroom production facility in Karaman with a 65% grant support from the Agricultural and Rural Development Support Institution (TKDK), sells an average of 15 tons of products per month.
HE RESIGNED FROM HIS PUBLIC POSITION Yüca, who worked as a civil servant in the construction engineer position for about 10 years, resigned from his public position in 2021 and founded an architecture company. Yüca, who prepares architectural projects for investors wishing to receive support from TKDK, applied to the TKDK Karaman Provincial Coordination after seeing that significant businesses could be established with the support provided. With the support he received, Yüca established a 5-room mushroom production facility in the Kazımkarabekir district, and in addition to meeting all of his energy needs with the solar panels he installed on the roof of the facility, he also generated significant income by selling excess energy.
"WE PRODUCE ABOUT 150 TONS OF MUSHROOMS" Yüca told AA reporter that he initially had no plans to establish a facility, but his decision changed when he saw the businesses established with the projects he prepared. Stating that he provided job opportunities for 6 women and that they started operations at the end of 2023, Yüca explained: "I have a nature that loves to work. The process of being a civil servant felt a bit tiring and cumbersome. I wanted to work and produce more. Of course, the thought of making financial gains also played a role. I established an architecture company. By providing project services to our clients, we got to know the institution. Then we saw that there are many different grant options and various supports. When we saw the opportunity, we applied and established this facility. First, we conducted market research. Realizing that there was a gap in this area, we decided to produce mushrooms. Our facility consists of 5 rooms. We produce approximately 180 tons of mushrooms annually from 15 tons monthly. Currently, we are mostly doing wholesale sales because our production quantity is very high. We also send our products to markets and vendors."
"EVERYONE WITH A GOAL SHOULD BENEFIT FROM THE SUPPORTS" Yüca emphasized that food is a sector that will never run out and that those who want to start a business should first conduct market research. Stating that the facility produces its own electricity, Yüca pointed out that this eliminates a significant expense item, saying, "We have a 120-kilowatt solar energy system on our roof. It meets all of our monthly consumption. We also have a surplus. We are in a position to sell the excess energy to the system. Therefore, we have no energy costs. It provides significant financial contributions. TKDK is not an unreachable institution. I recommend everyone with a goal and who wants to invest to take advantage of the supports." he said.
Dr. Özgür Öztürk, the TKDK Karaman Coordinator, also stated that their doors are open to all entrepreneurs with dreams. Indicating that they are working to expand the production range of the city as the TKDK Karaman Coordinator, Öztürk said, "As TKDK, we provide support to many sectors. Our aim is to diversify agricultural production in our region. We aim to increase the number of these innovative facilities in our province to enhance agricultural diversity. We have currently announced the 7th call for applications for IPARD III. We welcome all investors to the TKDK provincial coordinators." he said.
