The Second President of the Chamber of Meteorological Engineers, Ahmet Köse, was a guest of presenter Melis Yaşar on Haberler.com. Köse, who drew attention to the African-origin heat wave affecting Turkey, stated that the felt temperature in Istanbul has reached 56 degrees with humidity. He emphasized that especially between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM, it is advised not to go outside, saying, "Due to the extreme heat, thermal shock may occur, and caution is necessary."

"AFRICAN-ORIGIN HEAT WAVE IS EFFECTIVE"

Stating that the heat wave is coming from the Balkans, the Second President of the Chamber of Meteorological Engineers, Ahmet Köse, said that it continues to increase its effect in Marmara, Aegean, and Central Anatolia. Köse noted, "The East and Southeast are heading towards new records in addition to classic summer temperatures. Temperatures are 8-12 degrees above seasonal norms."

"38 DEGREES IN THE SHADE, 56 DEGREES IN THE SUN IN ISTANBUL"

Köse stated, "Today, a temperature of 38 degrees is expected in the shade in Istanbul. However, due to the humidity being 60%, the felt temperature reaches 56 degrees. This is a very dangerous temperature level. Heat stroke, thermal shock, and loss of consciousness may occur," he warned.

"THE HEATED ASPHALT EXCEEDS 60 DEGREES"

Köse emphasized that the asphalt and concrete covering cities also increases the effects, stating, "Currently, the asphalt temperature in Istanbul is reaching 60 degrees, while the concrete temperature is rising to 62-63 degrees. Therefore, the felt temperature even exceeds the 47-48 degrees in Şanlıurfa," he said.

"DO NOT GO OUT BETWEEN 10:00 AM AND 5:00 PM"

Ahmet Köse particularly advised against going outside between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM. "Staying in the sun for more than 15 minutes during these hours poses a serious health risk. During these times, the elderly, children, those with chronic illnesses, and pregnant women should be especially careful," he warned.
