In the free zone of Menemen district in İzmir, 12 out of a total of 25 suspects, including 4 customs enforcement officers and 2 public officials, were arrested on charges of bribery, while 13 were released under judicial control.

In the investigation conducted by the Menemen Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, in coordination with the İzmir Police Department's Financial Crimes Unit and the Aliağa Financial Crimes Bureau, it was determined that irregularities occurred in some customs transactions in the free zone in Menemen. Following technical and physical surveillance, it was found that some containers were passed without inspection, that inspection procedures were carried out with incomplete declarations, and that products that should have been sent to the laboratory for determining the tax amount and product type were not sent.

25 SUSPECTS DETAINED

A detention order was issued for a total of 25 suspects, including 4 customs enforcement officers and 2 public officials, in connection with the incident. Teams carried out simultaneous operations at the identified addresses on April 21. While all suspects were detained, searches at the addresses resulted in the seizure of 12,200 dollars, 13 full gold coins, 40 grams of gold, 6 quarter gold coins, 3 grams of marijuana, and a large number of digital materials. After the procedures at the police station, 12 of the suspects sent to the courthouse were arrested, while 13 were released under judicial control.

As a result of the examination of the data from the Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK) and the account movements of the suspects within the scope of the investigation, it was revealed that 4 customs officers carried out transactions worth a total of 3 million 850 thousand lira related to bribery.
