Greece and the Greek Cypriot Administration (GCA) continue their attempts to unilaterally exploit energy resources in the Eastern Mediterranean while excluding Turkey. In this context, they plan to transport natural gas from the region to Greece via the Greek Cypriot Administration and the island of Crete through projects such as the "East Mediterranean Natural Gas Pipeline Project" (EastMed), and from there to Europe.

The Greek Cypriot Administration (GCA) continues unilateral hydrocarbon activities in the Eastern Mediterranean, disregarding the inherent rights of the Turkish Cypriot people over natural resources. This situation is seen as a violation of the rights and interests of Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and is considered an attempt to escalate tensions in the region.

THEY FEAR TURKEY-SYRIA COOPERATION

Turkey is conducting a diplomatic and strategic struggle to protect its rights in the Eastern Mediterranean. In particular, it is taking measures against the unilateral initiatives of Greece and the GCA by making agreements to delineate maritime jurisdiction areas with regional countries. In this context, Turkey's plan to potentially make a maritime jurisdiction agreement with Syria has raised concerns in Greece and the GCA.

INTERNATIONAL LAW IS INDISPENSABLE FOR TURKEY

According to news in the Greek media, Greece and the Greek Cypriot Administration (GCA) continue their attempts to unilaterally use energy resources in the Eastern Mediterranean by excluding Turkey. In this context, they plan to transport the natural gas in the region to Greece via the GCA and the island of Crete through projects like the "East Mediterranean Natural Gas Pipeline Project" (EastMed). Experts point out that this plan of Greece and the GCA is part of their aim to exert diplomatic pressure on Turkey with the support of the European Union (EU) and some Western countries. However, it is noted that Turkey's resolute stance in the region and its defense of rights based on international law have limited the impact of these initiatives.
