The leader of the Newborn Gang, Fırat Sarı, who provided unfair profits by transferring babies to hospitals they had agreements with and caused their deaths through negligent behavior, made scandalous statements in court. Sarı said, "There were baby deaths, the prosecutor followed up. If we were killing babies, why didn't the prosecutor say 'stop'? The prosecutor is responsible for the babies' deaths, the police are responsible."

The trial of 46 defendants, including the manager and members of the Newborn Gang, who provided unfair profits by transferring babies to hospitals they had agreements with and caused their deaths through negligent behavior, is ongoing. In the hearing held at the Bakırköy 22nd High Criminal Court, some detained and non-detained defendants, as well as the lawyers of the parties, were present.

REQUEST FOR DISMISSAL DECISION FOR İLKER GÖNEN

In the hearing, the public prosecutor stated that due to the death of the defendant İlker Gönen, a dismissal decision should be made in the case opened against him, and his phone should be returned to his family. On the other hand, the prosecutor requested that the detention status of all detained defendants be continued due to the lack of collected evidence.

"İLKER'S SUICIDE IS NOT THE LAST INCIDENT, WE SHARE THIS THOUGHT"

In his defense, detained defendant Dursun Eryılmaz stated that he has been in detention for 10 months, saying, "I want to talk about my friend İlker's death. He was the most rational among us. He committed suicide due to pressure and violence. We are serving our sentences as convicts. We can only get fresh air for one hour a day, and we are constantly insulted during the ventilation period. İlker's suicide is not the last incident; we share this thought. I request my release," he expressed.

Detained defendant Çağla Durmuş, who was defending herself, said, "I have been accused of being a murderer for 10 months. I am very tired of being tortured and mistreated. I want to go to my family," she stated.

"THE PROSECUTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DEATHS OF THE BABIES"

Speaking about İlker Gönen's suicide, detained defendant and gang leader Fırat Sarı said, "I lost a valuable colleague and friend, and we do not accept that a lawyer comes out and declares us baby killers. If these things happen to us, you are responsible. The lawyers here are responsible for every death that could occur in this group. İlker was a father of three children and was not someone who would do such a thing. Baby deaths occurred, and the prosecutor followed up. If we were killing babies, why didn't the prosecutor say 'stop'? The prosecutor is responsible for the deaths of the babies, the police are responsible; why didn't they have an autopsy done? İlker told me, 'make your voice heard.' You will judge us, I know, kill us. Initially, a directive came, and a complaint was made against a friend named Deniz Korkmaz, who had relations with us. This CİMER complaint was forced," he stated.

"IF YOU WANT TO JUDGE FAIRLY, YOU NEED TO IMPOSE A MEDIA BAN"

Continuing his defense, Sarı said, "If we were guilty, İlker would not have committed suicide. İlker was our strength here. He stood before us with scientific evidence. We are not criminal people. I was judged for an incident that happened when I was 20 years old. A friend of ours took his own life. There was confidentiality in the investigation; we learned everything from the media. We couldn't build a life. I am very curious about what kind of report SGK will give with this much perception. We have been burning in a fire for 10 months. We are experiencing terrible detention conditions. If you want to judge fairly, you need to impose a media ban. If there is going to be justice, it should be for everyone. In the last hearing, they requested a judge's recusal. We have concerns about not being judged fairly. I am standing here so that the truth can come out," he said. The hearing continues with the defendants' defenses.
