U.S. President Donald Trump stated that they would strike Venezuelan territory if deemed necessary to combat drug trafficking coming from Venezuela. Trump said, "I want those ships to be eliminated, and if necessary, we will attack Venezuelan territory just like we would at sea. We will also initiate these attacks from the ground, you know."
US President Donald Trump stated that they could "hit Venezuelan territory if necessary" to prevent drug trafficking that he claims comes from Venezuela to the US, in addition to boats at sea.
TRUMP'S STATEMENT ON VENEZUELA
After a cabinet meeting held at the White House that lasted about 2 hours and was broadcast live, President Trump answered questions from the press regarding current issues. Trump evaluated the increased pressure the US military has placed on Venezuela and the attacks on boats in the Caribbean region that are "allegedly carrying drugs."
Trump explained that they are determined to fight against drugs that he claims reach American soil from countries like Venezuela and Colombia, stating that they will do everything necessary for this and that he has fully authorized the Pentagon in this regard.
"WE WILL ATTACK VENEZUELAN TERRITORY IF NECESSARY"
Trump said, "I want those ships (off the coast of Venezuela) to be eliminated, and if necessary, we will attack (Venezuelan) territory as we do at sea. There is very little coming from the sea now; I think we have destroyed more than 90% of it."
"WE WILL START THESE ATTACKS FROM LAND AS WELL"
The US President stated, "We will start these attacks from land as well; you know, attacking from land is much easier. We know the routes they use; we know everything about them, where they live, and we will start this very soon. Everyone who produces and sells (drugs) to our country will be subjected to this attack." Trump mentioned Venezuela and Colombia several more times, claiming that these countries are responsible for most of the drugs coming to the US.
STATEMENT REGARDING THE SECOND ATTACK ON THE SHIP
Meanwhile, Trump ordered a second attack on a ship that was allegedly "carrying drugs" off the coast of Venezuela on September 2, responding to questions about claims that two individuals who were on the ship after the first attack were killed in this second attack.
The US President stated that he has fully authorized the Pentagon and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth in the fight against drugs and that he stands behind these attacks. Trump mentioned that he did not know the details regarding the two injured individuals who survived the first attack and were killed in the second attack, but he argued that the attack was in accordance with the relevant laws.
Defense Secretary Hegseth also claimed that the current Admiral Frank Bradley was fully authorized for the second attack and that it was not possible for them to know the details of the injured individuals at that moment. According to a report by the American Washington Post, military elements of the US Navy conducted an attack on a ship allegedly carrying drugs on September 2, and it was claimed that two individuals who survived the first attack and clung to the ship were killed in the second attack.
