The "Trump Gold Card" program launched by US President Donald Trump for wealthy foreigners has not seen the expected interest. Only 338 people applied for the program, which offers a fast track to residency in the US, in its first year. While a $1 million application fee plus a $15,000 processing fee is required, it was announced that just 165 people made payments. The Trump administration is now preparing to introduce a $2 million corporate card and a $5 million "platinum card" option.
The "Trump Gold Card" program launched by the administration of US President Donald Trump for wealthy foreigners failed to achieve its targeted success in its first year. It has emerged that only 338 people have applied for the program, which promises fast residency rights in the US.
1 MILLION DOLLAR REQUIREMENT FOR APPLICATION
Under the program, announced in April last year, applicants are required to pay 1 million dollars to demonstrate that they can contribute to the US economy.
Additionally, candidates are required to pay a non-refundable processing fee of 15,000 dollars for Department of Homeland Security processes.
165 OUT OF 338 APPLICANTS PAID THE FEE
According to court records, only 165 of the 338 applicants paid the processing fee.
In this context, a total of 5 million 70 thousand dollars in revenue has been provided to the federal budget so far. It was stated that officials expected much higher foreign capital inflow.
SPECIAL "CORPORATE CARD" PACKAGE FOR COMPANIES
The Trump administration has also introduced new packages for companies in addition to individual applications.
With the 2 million dollar "corporate card" package, companies can provide residency rights in the US for their employees. It was stated that this right can be transferred to other employees for a 5 percent commission.
5 MILLION DOLLAR "PLATINUM CARD" ON THE WAY
According to information on the official website of the US government, it is planned to offer a 5 million dollar "platinum card" option in the near future.
It was stated that the goal is to provide holders of this card with the right to spend 270 days a year in the US without paying taxes on their income outside the US.
STRONG REACTION FROM DEMOCRATS
The program has drawn harsh criticism from Democratic politicians. Opponents argue that the practice only benefits ultra-wealthy immigrants and creates inequality in the immigration system. First-year data revealed that high-cost immigration programs have not provided the expected contribution to the US economy.
