The Taliban's government spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, issued a warning to U.S. President Donald Trump, who wants to reclaim Bagram Air Base. Mujahid stated, "Bagram is a part of Afghan territory. It is no different from any other Afghan land. We will not give up any part of our country, and we will not negotiate on this matter. No Afghan will tolerate even an inch of their land being taken by foreigners."
Taliban's government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid harshly criticized the Trump administration's plans regarding Bagram Air Base in an interview with Al Arabiya English.
"WE WILL NOT GIVE UP ANY PART OF OUR COUNTRY"
Mujahid stated, "Bagram is a part of Afghan territory. It is no different from other Afghan lands. We will not give up any part of our country, and we will not negotiate for this." Continuing his remarks, Mujahid said, "Afghans are very sensitive about occupation. No Afghan will tolerate even an inch of their land being taken and controlled by foreigners."
RESPONSE TO TRUMP'S THREAT: WE HAVE ALREADY EXPERIENCED BAD THINGS
Regarding U.S. President Donald Trump's threat that "bad things will happen if Afghanistan does not return Bagram Air Base," Mujahid responded, "Afghanistan has already experienced 'bad things' under 20 years of U.S. occupation."
Mujahid stated that Afghanistan is not a country that can be "occupied or subdued," and expressed that the U.S. should engage with Afghans "politically, diplomatically, and rationally."
Mujahid explained that Afghanistan wants to establish good relations with both China and the U.S., and that Kabul aims to pursue a "balanced, economy-centered foreign policy."
WHY DOES HE WANT BAGRAM?
It is aimed to transform Bagram Air Base, located in the Bagram district of Parwan province north of Kabul, into an "observation post" that is monitored by the region, especially China, due to its size, capacity, and strategic location.
Bagram Air Base, resembling a large town and a small city, has more than 100 areas for military ground and air vehicles to park, as well as two runways that are 3 and 3.5 kilometers long. Large cargo and bomber aircraft can easily land on the runways.
Surrounded by kilometers of blocks, the base features military facilities, as well as a cinema, swimming pool, and game centers, large hospitals and prisons, accommodation areas, restaurants and fast-food shops, gyms, and numerous stores.
