The details of Donald Trump's plan to end the Ukraine war, which he won in the elections, leaked to the press following his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, Trump plans to freeze the front line and create a demilitarized zone. An official from Trump's team stated that American soldiers would not be sent to ensure peace in Ukraine and that financial support would be cut off. The official said, "This task will be undertaken by our European allies. Poland, Germany, the UK, and France need to take responsibility." According to the plan, Ukraine's NATO membership will be blocked for 20 years, but the U.S. will continue to provide military support to Ukraine to prevent a possible new attack from Russia. It is still unclear who will oversee the demilitarized zone. Kurt Volkner, Trump's special representative for Ukraine from 2017 to 2019, stated that the new president would call Putin as soon as he takes office and urge him to stop the war. Zelensky noted that he had a "perfect" meeting with Trump, stating, "Strong and decisive U.S. leadership is vital for the world and for a just peace." Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov expressed a cautious approach to Trump's plans, using the phrase "we will see" and emphasized that the U.S. is still an unfriendly country. Peskov said, "We have repeatedly stated that the U.S. could contribute to ending this conflict."
