The Turkish Statistical Institute's time use survey revealed striking differences in the daily habits of married and single individuals. According to the research, married people spend more time on watching television and family care, while singles stand out in education, hobbies, games, and sports activities.
The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) determined through its research how individuals spend their day and how much time they allocate to various activities. Within the scope of the study, the average value of the total time individuals spent on any activity within 24 hours was identified.
SINGLE PEOPLE SLEEP MORE
According to the research; the activity to which individuals in the country devoted the most time last year was sleep. Married individuals allocated an average of 8 hours and 44 minutes daily, while singles, defined by TÜİK as 'those who have never married,' dedicated 9 hours and 5 minutes to sleep.
Singles engaged more in 'hobbies and games' as well as 'sports and nature sports' compared to married individuals. While married people could allocate only 13 minutes a day to hobbies and games, this amount was calculated to be nearly 4 times higher for singles at 47 minutes.
SINGLE PEOPLE EXERCISE MORE
Married individuals spent 9 minutes on sports and nature sports, while the time allocated for this by singles was determined to be 18 minutes.
Education was the category where the time allocated by individuals varied the most according to marital status. Single individuals devoted 2 hours and 1 minute per day to education, whereas this time remained at 1 minute for married individuals.
Married individuals spent more time on household and family care
Married individuals spent 2 hours and 35 minutes on employment, while this time was recorded as 2 hours and 24 minutes for single individuals.
MARRIED PEOPLE WATCH MORE TELEVISION
One of the activities where married individuals spent more time than singles was 'watching television, listening to radio and music.'
Singles allocated 1 hour and 34 minutes to this category, while married individuals dedicated 2 hours and 1 minute.
For household and family care, married individuals spent 3 hours and 12 minutes, while singles spent 1 hour and 3 minutes.
The time allocated by singles to volunteer work and meetings was 13 minutes, whereas this time reached up to 48 minutes for married individuals.
