In Edirne, the water levels of the Tunca and Meriç rivers rose, causing floods in some areas. The water that spread to agricultural lands blocked village roads and bridges from access.

The Tunca and Meriç rivers, which flow out of their beds in Edirne, continue to spread into agricultural lands in some areas. After partial floods at the beginning of the week, the flow rates, which had begun to decline, rose again due to the heavy rainfall affecting the basins and the controlled water release from energy production dams in Bulgaria. The flow of the Tunca, which averages 2 cubic meters per second in the summer months, reached up to 212 cubic meters per second.

The rising water level of the Tunca River caused flooding in areas such as Sarayiçi Island, where the Historical Kırkpınar Oil Wrestling takes place, as well as in villages located along the river such as Yolüstü, Değirmenyeni, and Avarız. Due to the continued spread of water in the flood areas, some village roads and certain bridges over the Tunca were closed to traffic. The warning level for the Tunca River is applied as "red."

RISK CONTINUES IN MERİÇ

The flow in the Meriç River, which is mixed with the Tunca, is also at critical levels. The flow rate, recorded at 1240 cubic meters per second in the latest measurements and at the "orange" warning level, partially overflowed its banks in the area where the vineyard houses are located near Bosnaköy, which is connected to the city center.

While it is stated that there is currently no direct risk for the residential areas in the city center, it has been reported that the risk continues in the villages in the southern part near the river due to the rising water levels. As a result of a rupture in the embankment protecting the settlement in the Subaşı town of Meriç district, river waters spread to the agricultural lands in the Küplü town.

WATER LEVELS IN THE REGION ARE MONITORED IN REAL TIME

It has been learned that teams in the region are monitoring water levels in real time and taking measures against flood risks. Küplü Mayor Gökmen Altay told AA correspondent that it is pleasing that the rain has stopped. Altay stated that the DSİ teams, Hamzadere Irrigation Union, and municipal teams are conducting intensive precautionary measures, saying, "Hopefully, we will get through this. Currently, there are no flooded areas in terms of residential areas. Our fields and pastures are underwater."

DSİ INCREASED MEASURES

The State Hydraulic Works (DSİ) teams are also working continuously on a 24-hour basis in areas where the flood risk continues. The teams, who meticulously carry out cleaning and strengthening works in the bed of the Tunca River, monitor water levels in real time and take necessary precautions at risky points. The teams are conducting pumping drainage operations to protect the residential areas in the Küplü and Subaşı towns and Kadıdondurma village from floodwaters.

The teams continue their efforts to prevent water from entering the settlements along the Tunca River and have also controlled the water entry to the village in the Gölbaba area of Değirmenyeni village by blocking the road route.
