When the taxi driver started recording video, they apologized and said 'forgive us.' Güneş, who filed a complaint, stated that he would make efforts to have the women deported.
Three women who took a taxi from an entertainment venue in Ortaköy to Etiler argued with the driver, Ahmet Güneş, to avoid paying the 600 lira fare. The taxi driver, whom the women allegedly confronted aggressively, called the police for help. Güneş said, "While I was talking to the police on the phone, they said among themselves that they would claim I harassed them. When I started recording video, they said, 'We are drunk, forgive us, delete the video.' I will do my best to have them deported."
The incident occurred around 03:00 on Wednesday, August 12, in the Etiler neighborhood of Beşiktaş. According to the information obtained, the commercial taxi driver picked up 3 female passengers from an entertainment venue in Kuruçeşme and headed towards Etiler. While no issues occurred during the journey, the meter showed 600 lira when the taxi reached Etiler. Allegedly, the 3 women refused to pay the fare, making various excuses.
THEY DIDN'T WANT TO PAY 600 LIRA
An argument broke out between the driver, who demanded the 600 lira, and the women. Worried for his safety after the women allegedly continued the argument, verbally assaulted him, and displayed aggressive behavior, the taxi driver called the police. Seeing the women trying to leave the vehicle, the taxi driver started recording with his mobile phone camera to document the events. The 3 women left the scene without paying the 600 lira shown on the meter.
"THEY SAID I DEFRAUDED THEM"
Ahmet Güneş said, "I picked up 3 female customers of foreign nationality from a nightclub in Ortaköy. They said they wanted to go towards Etiler. I turned on my meter and set off towards the Etiler route. During the journey, they got into a verbal argument among themselves. They hurled Arabic insults at each other. After a while, the argument turned on me. They said I was taking them a different way and trying to defraud them. I calmly told them I was trying to drop them off by the shortest route and quickly, because there was a heated argument. My goal was to drop them off as soon as possible. The ladies persistently shouted loudly that I was defrauding them. Seeing that the situation was escalating, I pulled my vehicle over to a suitable spot. I asked them to get out. I didn't ask them to pay any fee. They insisted, 'No, we won't get out of the car. The police will come.' So I didn't argue and called 112 to request the police."
"THEY SAID AMONG THEMSELVES, 'LET'S SAY HE HARASSED US'"
Güneş said, "While I was talking to the police, the women claimed among themselves that I had harassed them. My Arabic is fluent, I know Arabic. When I heard this, I got alarmed and panicked. I asked the police to come urgently. After hanging up, I turned on my camera and started recording. At that moment, when they saw me recording, they came at me. They tried to grab the phone from my hand, pushed me, and tried to knock me down. I then recorded a 6-minute video. When the video ended, I quickly ran to my car, closed the door, and drove back towards them, going down again. As I was pulling up, the women saw the phone was off and quickly headed towards me. One sat in the front passenger seat, one sat in the back. The other woman opened my driver's door and blocked me from getting out."
"SHE TRIED TO KISS ME SAYING 'FORGIVE US,' I'M PRESSING CHARGES"
Güneş said, "They started apologizing sweetly. They began saying things like, 'We are drunk. Forgive us, delete the video.' I said I would definitely not delete it and that we would wait for the police to arrive. I said I would show them my recordings. The other woman grabbed my chin and tried to talk to me. The woman at my driver's door also tried to kiss me. All of this is on my dashcam. I am requesting this dashcam footage from the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. I hope and pray that I can retrieve the video recordings as soon as possible and deliver them to the relevant authorities. I am pressing charges against these women. I will do everything in my power to have them deported."
