Turkey intervened diplomatically in the war between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held phone conversations with the foreign ministers of Pakistan, Afghanistan, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. The discussions addressed the recent developments between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Pakistan conducted airstrikes early today on Afghanistan's capital Kabul, as well as Kandahar and Paktia provinces, following escalating conflicts in the border region. Pakistan's Defense Minister Khawaja Asif stated in a social media post that their patience has run out, saying, "There is now an open war between us."

THERE ARE MUTUAL HEAVY LOSSES

The Pakistan army claimed that more than 230 Taliban fighters were killed and numerous military positions and ammunition depots were destroyed as part of an operation called "Gazab Lil Hak" (Just Anger).

Pakistan's Information Minister Attaullah Tarar announced that the brigade headquarters in Kabul were also targeted.

On the other hand, the Afghan Ministry of Defense claimed that 55 Pakistani soldiers were killed in the attacks they carried out along the border line on Thursday night, and some soldiers were taken captive.

The Pakistani side denied the captivity claim, asserting that their losses were limited to two soldiers.

AFGHANISTAN-PAKISTAN DISPUTE

The Pakistan Information Ministry had announced that following recent bomb attacks in the country, seven points it described as "terror camps" along the border with Afghanistan were targeted.

The Afghan Ministry of Defense stated that a "suitable and measured response" would be given to Pakistan at the appropriate time.

The Afghan Red Crescent stated that as a result of Pakistan's attack, 18 people lost their lives and many others were injured.

Pakistan's Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry reported that approximately 70 terrorists were neutralized in the attacks carried out along the Afghanistan border.

After Pakistan targeted the seven points it described as "terror camps," the Afghan government delivered a protest note to the Kabul Ambassador, who was summoned to the Foreign Ministry.

PAKISTAN'S EXPECTATION FROM THE AFGHAN GOVERNMENT

Since the Taliban took control in Afghanistan in 2021, Pakistan has been urging the new administration to take measures regarding the Pakistan Taliban (TTP).

The Islamabad administration emphasizes that the TTP, which it classifies as a terrorist organization and has carried out numerous actions on its territory, has established itself in Afghanistan, while the Kabul administration has not taken measures against the group.

The Afghan administration claims that the TTP does not operate on its territory.

The TTP actively uses the tribal region in the Pashtun belt that spans both countries, established during the British colonial period and effectively functioning as a border.
