Turkey's Borsa Istanbul Down At Wednesday's Close

Turkey's benchmark stock index closed at 1,431.31 points on Wednesday, down by 0.78% from the previous close.

Starting the day at 1,441.36 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index lost 11.25 points from the previous close of 1,442.56 points.

The index's lowest value during the day was 1,431.31 points, while its daily high was 1,444.79 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was just above 1 trillion Turkish liras (over $117.7 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 12.4 billion Turkish liras ($1.45 billion).

On the third transaction day of the week, 20 stocks on the index rose, 72 fell and eight were flat compared to Tuesday.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines (THYAO), private lender Garanti BBVA and gold miner Koza Altin (KOZAL).

Food company Ulker (ULKER) was the best performer with its shares up 5.18%, while stocks of conglomerate Bera Holding (BERA) saw the sharpest drop of 9.99%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1.857,40 by market close, down from $1.862,80 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $74.76 per barrel as of 6.46 p.m. local time (1546GMT).
