The former Mayor of Maltepe, Ali Kılıç, has been charged with unjust acquisition of assets, asset evasion, or concealment. The prepared indictment states that an extraordinary increase in Kılıç's wealth has been detected.
The former Maltepe Mayor Ali Kılıç has been charged with "unjust enrichment, asset concealment, or hiding" with a request for imprisonment of 3 to 5 years and a heavy fine ranging from 5 million to 10 million lira.
In the indictment prepared by the Anadolu Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Special Investigation Bureau, it was noted that there was an extraordinary and unexplained increase in Kılıç's assets during his tenure as mayor, and an investigation was initiated based on complaints that he and his relatives acquired many real estate properties.
"UNEXPLAINED INCREASE IN ASSETS"
The indictment stated that in the investigation conducted by the Financial Crimes Unit of the Istanbul Provincial Police Department regarding the allegations, it was found that Kılıç had 9 title deeds, most of which he acquired through inheritance and court proceedings, in Ankara, Yalova, Tunceli, Istanbul, and Erzincan, as well as records of 3 companies operating in construction, media agency office, foundation management, hotel management, cleaning, and machinery maintenance.
In the expert report, it was stated that Kılıç did not submit 11 change declarations that he was required to declare, and when a comparison of income and expenses was made, there was an excess of expenses amounting to 5 million 155 thousand 41 lira and an unexplained increase in his assets, as mentioned in the indictment.
KILIÇ MADE A DEFENSE
In the petition submitted to the prosecutor's office by Kılıç's lawyer, it was stated that the expert report was erroneous in many respects, that the properties located at the same address were repeated and presented as if they were different acquisitions, that despite the existence of 6 properties belonging to his client, the properties were shown as excessive, and that the company information did not reflect the truth.
As a result of the investigation, the indictment claimed that during his tenure as the Mayor of Maltepe, Ali Kılıç had an excess of expenses amounting to 1 million 138 thousand 740 lira, which should be considered unjust enrichment, and that the defendant committed the crime attributed to him in this manner.
The indictment requesting Kılıç's imprisonment for 3 to 5 years for the crime of "unjust enrichment, asset concealment, or hiding" and a heavy fine ranging from 5 million to 10 million lira was accepted by the criminal court of first instance.
