The Turkish state aid agency on Tuesday distributed parcels of much-needed food staples to 500 needy families in southern Nepal.

The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) distributed the food aid in Nepal, one of the world's poorest countries according to UN data, as part of its program for the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, where there is a special emphasis on helping the needy, according to a statement from the agency.

Needy families were identified from 45 villages in the southern region of the country, and distribution was done in the cities of Burgunj, Parsagadhi and Gujra.

Ramadan parcels including staples such as rice, flour, dates, lentils, sugar, and oil were delivered to needy families.

Many local government officials in the South Asian country also helped with the food distribution. -
