Turkish-İş President Atalay: Despite all the difficulties, we are happier than the rich.

05.09.2024 21:00

Ergün Atalay, President of Türk-İş, made noteworthy statements while expressing that workers have not been economically stable in recent years. Atalay said, "We have problems with taxes, we have problems with wages. Despite all these difficulties, we are happier than the rich. What we earn in a month, they spend on cat food in a week."

Turkish-İş President Ergün Atalay attended the "Search for Inertia in Inflation, Misery in Wages, and Justice in Taxes Symposium" organized by the Şeker-İş Union in a hotel in Ankara.

"CIVIL SERVANTS ARE NOT EARNING MUCH, WE ARE EARNING LESS"

Atalay, who said that workers come to the world tired and leave tired, said, "In the past, public workers were pioneers in terms of wages in Turkey. 15 months ago, we made such a public contract that it surpassed doctors and managers. Our employers are also here, they also complain. 'Workers made such a contract that disrupted peace and tranquility in the workplace', that was the exact phrase. Both civil servants and workers are mine. Civil servants are not earning much, we are earning less. When a person has financial difficulties, they cannot find peace in that house." he said.

"THERE ARE MANY EMPLOYERS WHO PUT WORKERS IN FRONT OF THE DOOR"

Atalay, stating that workers have not been economically capable in recent years, continued his words as follows; "The average wage of workers is determined by taxes in the public sector. We work for 12 months and give 1.5 months to taxes. We have problems with taxes, we have problems with wages. Despite all these difficulties, we are happier than the rich. What we earn in a month, they spend on their cats in a week. Of course, there are those who do their job properly. Do we have fair employers? Yes, we do. But there are more employers who put workers in front of the door when they organize. We are obliged to be fair and stand by the workers in every environment. Public employees received a 24.73% raise in July. The raise they will receive in September is around 17.43%. We say, 'If you gave 24.73% in July, you must also give it to other workers'."
