Turkmenistan Gathers Councils To Mark 30Th Year Of Independence

President says his country has made great progress, achievements in past 3 decades.

Turkmenistan's People's Council and National Council gathered on Sunday to discuss the country's 30 years of independence, with its president leading the event, according to an official statement.

The meeting, which was open to the public, was attended by council members as well as the heads of government agencies, political parties, public organizations, and sector representatives, with the country's achievements over the past three decades being the top item on the agenda, said the statement.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said in his speech that Turkmenistan had accomplished many tremendous achievements during its development as a sovereign nation since gaining independence on Sept. 27, 1991, and that the Turkmen people proved themselves to be peace-loving and friendly.

"Our state will continue to consistently implement a peace-loving foreign policy strategy aimed at the development of friendly, constructive relations with the world countries," he said. -
