Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ) and Airbus have signed a partnership agreement to accelerate the export of the HÜRJET jet trainer aircraft to Spain. With this agreement, it is planned to deliver 30 HÜRJETs to the Spanish Air Force.
The Turkish defense industry has crossed another significant threshold in the European market. Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ) and Airbus, one of Europe's leading aerospace companies, have signed a strategic partnership to accelerate the export process of the HÜRJET jet training aircraft to Spain. The agreement was formalized during a ceremony held as part of the 17th International Defense Industry Fair (IDEF 2025).
The signed agreement aims to clarify the roles of TUSAŞ and Airbus in the HÜRJET project while also speeding up the process to meet Spain's jet training aircraft needs. The parties have reached a consensus on the supply of up to 30 HÜRJETs for the Spanish Air Force. The final sales contract is expected to be signed by the end of the year, with deliveries aimed to start in 2028.
During the ceremony attended by Haluk Görgün, the President of the Presidency of Defense Industries, senior executives from both companies were present.
TUSAŞ General Manager Mehmet Demiroğlu stated that this collaboration with a global player like Airbus is not just an export success, emphasizing, "This agreement is a testament to the technological level achieved by the Turkish aerospace industry on an international scale." Demiroğlu highlighted that the flight of HÜRJET in European skies would further strengthen Turkey's position in the global defense industry.
HÜRJET JET AIRCRAFT FEATURES
Equipped with high performance and advanced avionics systems, HÜRJET plays a critical role in training pilots for 5th generation fighter jets. The jet training aircraft, which has supersonic flight capability, facilitates the transition process to fighter jets thanks to its user-friendly interface.
Having completed over 210 successful flights and exceeded the speed of sound, HÜRJET aims to reach a maximum speed of 1.4 mach. The embedded training infrastructure integrated with the "HÜRJET Training 360" system offers an efficient and realistic piloting experience. Its single-engine smart configuration provides fuel savings, low maintenance costs, and high mission continuity.
This strategic partnership between TUSAŞ and Airbus is seen not only in the context of HÜRJET but also as part of a long-term vision that will advance cooperation in defense and aerospace between the two countries.
