At least 24 people have died and 100 others have been injured, 25 of them seriously, in an accident caused by two high-speed trains derailing in southern Spain. Spain's Minister of Transport, Oscar Puente, stated that the cause of the accident is still unknown, emphasizing that such an event occurring on a straight track is "extraordinary."

Spain was the scene of a disastrous accident. Two high-speed trains derailed. According to reports in the Spanish press, the accident occurred in the Adamuz area of the city of Córdoba at around 19:45 local time.

HIGH-SPEED TRAIN DERAILS

A high-speed train traveling from Malaga to Madrid derailed for reasons that are not yet known. Another high-speed train heading towards Huelva from the other track overturned due to having to make a sudden maneuver because of the accident.

DEATH TOLL AT TERRIFYING LEVELS

While many ambulances and rescue teams were dispatched to the scene, initial reports indicated that 24 people had lost their lives and 100 people were injured, 25 of whom were in serious condition.

"THE CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT IS STILL UNKNOWN"

Spain's Minister of Transport, Oscar Puente, stated at a press conference held at Atocha station in Madrid that the cause of the accident is still unknown. Puente emphasized that such an event occurring on a straight track is "extraordinary," noting that the line was renewed in May. A comprehensive investigation into the accident has been launched.
