The C Group matches in the tournament hosted by Germany ended with the Denmark-Serbia and England-Slovenia matches.

DISCIPLINE POINTS DETERMINED THE QUALIFYING SIDE

The ranking of Denmark and Slovenia in Group C of the European Championship was determined by discipline points. Slovenia's coach Novakovic receiving a card changed the ranking in the group.

CARD GIVEN TO THE COACH CHANGED THEIR FATE

Both teams entered the final match day with equal points. The match between these two teams ended in a 1-1 draw. The goal differences and the number of goals scored were also the same. Therefore, the total of the lowest discipline points should have been decisive. After the third match day, Slovenian and Danish players had six yellow cards. However, the card given to Slovenian coach Milivoje Novakovic on the first match day determined the final ranking in Group C. Cards shown to players and coaching staff have the same value for UEFA.

If this criterion did not yield results, the team to qualify for the round of 16 would be determined according to the general ranking of the European qualifiers, which would also give Denmark the second place. In fact, this criterion was valid until Bijol received Slovenia's seventh yellow card in the 72nd minute.

UEFA PLAY-OFF CRITERIA

A. The most points obtained from matches played among the teams in question.

B. A greater goal difference obtained in matches played among the teams in question.

C. A greater number of goals scored in matches played among the teams in question.

D. After applying criteria (a) to (c), if the teams are still equal, the matches between the remaining teams are re-applied to determine their final rankings. If this procedure does not lead to a decision, criteria (e) to (i) are applied in the order given to the two or more teams that are tied.

E. Superiority in goal difference in all group matches.

F. The highest number of goals scored in all group matches.

G. The lowest total discipline points based on yellow and red cards received by players and team officials in all group matches (red card = 3 points, yellow card = 1 point, expulsion from the game for two yellow cards in one match = 3 points).

H. Position in the overall ranking of the European qualifiers or, in the case of Germany, the team of the host federation, participating in the comparison by drawing lots.

If two teams with the same points and the same number of goals scored and conceded play their final group matches against each other and still remain equal at the end of this match, their final rankings will be determined by penalty shootouts, provided that no other team in the group has the same points at the end of all group matches.
