The number of Americans filing first-time unemployment claims last week rose by 4,000 to 235,000, the US Labor Department announced on Thursday.
The market estimate for initial jobless claims was 230,000. The previous week's unrevised figure was 231,000.
The four-week moving average was 232,500, an increase of 750 from the previous week's unrevised average of 231,750.
The US economy generated 390,000 jobs in May, while the unemployment rate remained unchanged at 3.6%, according to the latest figures. -
