It was stated that in the letter Trump sent to Khamenei, he expressed his desire to make an agreement with Iran regarding the nuclear program.

In statements regarding the matter to Fox Business Network, President Trump stated that he preferred to reach an agreement with Iran because Iran "cannot have nuclear weapons" and that as an alternative to an agreement, "they will have to do something." According to comments in the US press, Trump likely referred to a potential attack on Iran with this statement.
