US stocks were lower at the opening Wednesday as concerns about inflation and growth weigh on markets.
The Dow was down 294.4 points, or 0.90%, to 32,360 at 9.30 a.m. EDT (1330GMT). The S&P 500 lost 49.9 points, or 1.22%, to 4,039 points.
The tech-heavy Nasdaq fell 196.5 points, or 1.64%, to 11,788.
The yield on 10-year US Treasury notes rose 0.35% to 2.980%.
The VIX volatility index, known as the fear index, jumped 5.4% to 27,51. The dollar index rose 0.15% to 103.567.
Precious metals were down, with gold falling to $1,811 and silver shedding 0.68% to $21.60.
Global oil benchmark Brent crude was trading at $112.63, up 0.63%, while US benchmark West Texas Intermediate (WTI) was at $110.56 -- a 0.85% gain. -
