Major indexes in the US stock market plummeted to close in negative on Tuesday despite starting the day strongly.
The blue-chip Dow dived 292 points, or 0.84%, to 34,577, while the S&P 500 decreased 25 points, or 0.57%, to 4,443.
The tech-heavy Nasdaq fell 67 points, or 0.45%, to 15,037 with AMC Entertainment shedding 8.5%.
The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, was up 0.46% to 19.46 in a highly volatile session.
The yield on 10-year US Treasury notes fell 3.2% to 1.282%, while the dollar index stayed almost flat at 92.64.
Oil prices were up as Brent crude added 0.35% to $73.76 per barrel, and West Texas Intermediate rose 0.3% to $70.66.
The price of Bitcoin rose around 4% to $46,700.
Precious metals were on the rise with gold adding 0.65% $1,805 per ounce, and silver increasing 0.5% to $23.85. -
