The Senate of Uzbekistan has approved a legislative amendment that bans the entry of foreigners who engage in "inappropriate speech." The law targets individuals who insult the dignity of the people and incite hostility between countries, and such individuals will be prohibited from entering the country for a period of five years.

According to the statement from the Senate of Uzbekistan, the upper house of Parliament, the Senate General Assembly has accepted amendments to the "Law on the Legal Status of Foreign Nationals in Uzbekistan." According to the law amendments approved by the Senate, entry into the country will be prohibited for those who insult the honor, dignity, or history of Uzbekistan and its people or engage in such actions. These individuals will be declared "undesirable persons" and will be subject to deportation procedures if they are found on Uzbek territory.

A LIST WILL BE CREATED FOR THOSE SPEAKING AGAINST UZBEKISTAN

A list will be maintained of foreign nationals who make statements that violate the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and security of Uzbekistan, as well as those who incite social, national, and religious hostility between states, or who engage in actions that demean the honor, dignity, or history of the people. Foreign nationals on the list may be removed from it by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs if they eliminate the reasons for their inclusion before the expiration of the period.

FOREIGN NATIONALS ON THE LIST WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO ENTER THE COUNTRY FOR 5 YEARS

Foreign nationals on the list will not be allowed to enter Uzbekistan or remain in the country for 5 years. Additionally, there will be certain restrictions on these individuals opening bank accounts or acquiring real estate in the country. The law amendment, approved by the Senate and sent to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, will come into effect after being signed.
