Due to the ongoing war and security risks in the Middle East, passenger planes unable to land at Erbil International Airport have redirected their routes to Şırnak Şerafettin Elçi Airport.
ROUTE DIVERTED TO ŞIRNAK
Passengers on planes landing in Şırnak, especially due to the activity in Iraqi airspace, are crossing into Iraq through the Habur Border Gate after completing their procedures here. It has been reported that, due to the density in the region, many scheduled flights as well as numerous private flights have also been redirected to Şırnak.
A FIRST HAS OCCURRED
In addition to the mandatory route change in the region, Şırnak Şerafettin Elçi Airport witnessed a historic day. With an operation carried out by Erbil Airlines, the first direct international flight from Düsseldorf, Germany to Şırnak was conducted.
145 passengers arriving from Düsseldorf on a plane belonging to Erbil Airlines landed in Şırnak, while the same plane took off with 170 passengers from Şırnak. Airport officials and citizens emphasize that this activity increases Şırnak's potential to become a regional logistics and transportation hub.
