The Ministry of Trade has imposed the obligation for businesses to include the weight information of products in their tariffs and price lists, specifically regarding döner, iskender, and the widely preferred hamburger product, in order to protect consumers' economic interests, ensure accurate and complete information, and prevent consumer grievances. In this context, the Ministry of Trade conducted simultaneous inspections in 81 provinces, with 47 teams carrying out inspections in 27 districts of Istanbul. "WE HAVE INSPECTED APPROXIMATELY 38 THOUSAND RESTAURANTS"Accompanying the teams, Istanbul Trade Provincial Director İsmail Menteşe stated, "Today we are conducting weight inspections in Istanbul. We are carrying out inspections regarding the price tags and price lists of goods and services sold at retail, in accordance with our Ministry's Law No. 6502 and the regulations derived from this law. Today, we are conducting inspections in Istanbul with 47 teams in 27 districts. The last regulation regarding price tag management was passed in December 2023, as you know, requiring businesses to display a list of the products they sell, essentially their menu, outside and to have a menu inside as well. The purpose here was to protect and raise awareness of our consumers' commercial interests to the highest level. Since January 1, we have inspected approximately 38 thousand restaurants in this regard. We applied administrative sanctions for significant deficiencies we observed. Additionally, starting from November 20, which is two days ago, there will be name changes for the products that are among the most consumed and economical by our citizens, namely döner, hamburger, and iskender kebab. For instance, döner, döner in bread, sandwich döner, and so on. There was no explanation regarding the weights corresponding to these names. There was a price difference. To clarify this, there was an obligation to specify the weights related to the services provided for these products, namely döner, iskender, and hamburger, with different campaigns," he said. MINUTES WERE TAKEN FOR SOME BUSINESSESMenteşe, who stated that they also conducted inspections regarding water prices, said, "Today we are conducting our inspections in Istanbul with 47 teams in 27 districts. Here, we visited and checked about 10 businesses together. Among them, some had weight information, and some did not. We thank those who did. We took minutes for those who did not. Recently, we have been receiving complaints about water prices, especially regarding those sold at high prices. We also included those in our inspections. We have taken the necessary actions regarding them. Our inspections will continue in this context," he stated.
