The incident occurred yesterday in the cemetery located in the Yunusoğlu neighborhood of the district. According to the information received, while digging the ground for the burial of Nuri Kavas (26), who lost his life in a traffic accident, a broken ceramic pot and many coins were found.

COINS WERE TAKEN TO THE MUSEUM DIRECTORATE

Upon the notification of the neighborhood residents, gendarmerie teams arrived at the cemetery, secured the area, and reported the situation to the Museum Directorate. In the operation conducted under the supervision of Museum Directorate officials and the gendarmerie, 1,100 silver coins were found at the burial site. While the coins were taken to the Museum Directorate, Kavas's burial was carried out later.

Yunusoğlu Neighborhood Headman İzzet Gökler stated that they were digging a grave for a person who lost his life in a traffic accident yesterday, saying, "While the excavator was digging the ground, a historical artifact called a coin was found. We informed our security forces. The security forces and museum officials sifted through the soil and extracted all of them. They took all of them away. A total of 1,100 coins were found," he said.
