As tensions rise in Syria, it has emerged that terrorist organization leader Abdullah Öcalan wants to meet with the SDF Commander Mazlum Abdi. DEM Party Spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan stated, "If not now, when? Because it is an undeniable reality that the developments happening there have an impact here. This reality has been experienced before. Open the way again. Öcalan should establish direct contact and convey his proposals directly."
DEM Party Spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan held a press conference at the headquarters regarding the current developments in Turkey and Syria, following the Central Executive Board meeting that took place yesterday.
3 NAMES ÖCALAN WANTS TO MEET
Doğan stated that conditions must be created for terrorist organization leader Abdullah Öcalan to "communicate freely" for discussions in both Syria and Turkey, and mentioned that Öcalan wants to meet with the head of the SDF, Mazlum Abdi. Doğan said, "There are certain names that Öcalan wants to meet, especially regarding the process. For instance, we had previously stated that Mr. Öcalan wants to meet with Mr. Mesut Barzani. We also mentioned that he wants to meet with Mr. Nechirvan Barzani. He has also expressed a desire to meet with Mr. Mazlum Abdi. Now, there are proposals from Mr. Öcalan regarding significant developments in the region. If not now, then when? Because it is an undeniable fact that the developments happening there have an impact here. This reality has been experienced before. Open the way again. Öcalan should establish direct contact and convey his proposals directly. It is not possible to make progress with conflict, war, attack, or siege. Therefore, all guarantor countries must first ensure the right to life of the people living there." she stated.
"OUR DELEGATION HAS A REQUEST TO MEET WITH ERDOĞAN"
In response to a journalist's question, Doğan also commented on the meeting traffic of the Imralı Delegation:
"As we have previously stated, our delegation has a request to meet with President Erdoğan. However, I can express that the meeting and appointment planning has not yet been finalized. Our delegation is following up. But there is such an agenda. And there is also a request for such a meeting. Again, the meetings with Mr. Öcalan are continuing routinely, as you know, with the DEM Party Imralı Delegation. And in their statement before the new year, they met with political parties. After those meetings with those parties, they also held a meeting with the Minister of Justice.
They themselves made the statements regarding the content of the meeting to the public. These statements were made by Pervin Bul and Mithat Sancar from our Imralı Delegation. At that time, they expressed that they also had a meeting with President Erdoğan on their agenda. They had stated that the date and appointment planning had not yet been finalized. It has not been clarified so far. However, this lack of clarification should not be evaluated as a negative aspect. As you can appreciate, there are very busy agendas on one hand. Therefore, we expect this meeting to take place in the near future.
Again, the fact that the meeting with Öcalan has not yet taken place should not be evaluated as a negative aspect or a negative situation. It is also progressing within its own routine flow. What will Öcalan's evaluations be regarding the attacks in Aleppo and the aftermath of those attacks? We currently have no way of knowing that. Because no meeting has taken place after these events."
