A fire broke out in the forested areas of Yurtpınar and Fettahlı neighborhoods in the Aksu district of Antalya around 17:45 in the evening.
INTERVENTION STARTED FROM AIR AND LAND
In the Yurtpınar neighborhood, the fire threatening residential areas was initially intervened by 3 helicopters, 2 planes, 11 water tankers, 5 water supply vehicles, 3 first response vehicles, and many teams from the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department, in addition to the fire workers from the Forest Regional Directorate.
CITIZENS ALSO MOBILIZED
While some greenhouses were damaged in the fire, teams made great efforts to prevent the flames from spreading to residential areas. Citizens also supported the extinguishing efforts by intervening with hoses, buckets, and tractors against the flames approaching their homes.
8 HECTARES OF LAND TURNED TO ASHES
Due to the wind, teams and citizens sometimes had difficulty intervening in the flames and came face to face with the fire during the intervention. After approximately 3 hours of work, the fire was brought under control, while 5 hectares of forested area and 3 hectares of non-forest area were damaged.
"IT HAPPENED TO US WHILE WATCHING THE FIRE IN IZMIR"
A citizen named Osman Aras, who received the news that his greenhouses were burning while watching developments about the fire in Izmir, said, "I was watching the news about the fire in Izmir. The electricity suddenly went out and came back. My neighbor said there was a fire. At first, I didn't believe it; the flames had come close to the house and greenhouses. Three of my greenhouses burned, my wood burned. The flames were also approaching the place where my animals were, but we noticed and extinguished it. There were 300 bales, and they burned too. Our loss is significant. While I was feeling sorry for the situation in Izmir, it happened to me as well."
