In the workshop hosted by the Turkish Retailers Federation (TPF), tradesmen, artisans, and representatives of the retail sector announced that they reached a consensus on closing chain stores on Sundays. However, the Turkish Shopping Centers and Retailers Federation (TAMPF) opposed this by stating that there was no decision or consensus in this regard.

IT WAS SAID TO BE A JOINT DECISION

Representatives of tradesmen, artisans, and the retail sector reached a consensus on closing chain stores on Sundays in the workshop held yesterday, hosted by the Turkish Retailers Federation (TPF). TPF Board Chairman Ömer Düzgün stated, "There is no obstacle in front of this regulation; we are now waiting for our Ministry of Trade to have the final say and take the final step."

TAMPF OPPOSED THE CLOSURE OF STORES ON SUNDAYS

In a statement from the Turkish Shopping Centers and Retailers Federation, it was said, "Today, various media outlets have reported that an agreement has been reached for tradesmen and retailers to be closed on Sundays. In light of these reports, there is a need to accurately inform the public. As TAMPF, which represents over 90% of organized retail in food and non-food areas across Turkey and is the umbrella organization of the sector consisting of seven associations, we would like to emphasize that we have no decision or consensus regarding the closure of chain stores on Sundays. On the contrary, all existing technical and economic data regarding our sector clearly indicate that a mandatory closure for one day of the week would negatively affect consumer preferences, create negative pressure on price stability, and pose serious risks in terms of the registered economy."

"IT WILL NEGATIVELY AFFECT THE ENTIRE CHAIN"

Additionally, this practice will lead to disruptions in the supply chain, particularly causing interruptions in continuity on the food side, increasing waste, and deepening losses in efficiency. This situation will negatively affect the entire value chain, from production to logistics. It is very clear that the weekly mandatory closure will lead to serious job losses and shrink economic activities. In this context, we would like to reiterate that the proposal to close on Sundays is not a common view representing the entire sector and that our opinion is exactly the opposite," it was stated.
