Following the framework law passed by Parliament, a response came from the DEM Party to claims that Selahattin Demirtaş would be released in September. Party Spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan stated that instead of backroom talk, the implementation timeline of the law should be observed, and argued that there is no need for a new legal regulation for the release of Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ.

Following the framework law passed by Parliament within the scope of the Imrali process, an official response came from the DEM Party to the claims in the corridors that Selahattin Demirtas would be released in September.

"WE SHOULD SEE THE IMPLEMENTATION SCHEDULE INSTEAD OF CORRIDOR TALK"

DEM Party Spokesperson Aysegul Dogan stated that there is not even a need for a new legal regulation for releases, saying, "A lot is being talked about in the corridors. You asked about Demirtas's release. Instead of these corridor talks and claims, we need to see the schedule regarding the implementation phase of the law in order to talk based on facts. The schedule for the formation of the boards needs to be shared with the public. The law passed through Parliament on Monday, and work on it will be done rapidly."

"THERE IS NO LEGAL REASON FOR THE DETENTION OF DEMIRTAS AND YUKSEKDAG"

The highlights of Dogan's statement regarding the detention status of Selahattin Demirtas and Figen Yuksekdag are as follows:

There is no legal reason requiring Demirtas and Yuksekdag to remain in prison; the situation is entirely political. Due to the binding decisions of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), there is not even a need for a new legal regulation for detained politicians. The joint report of the National Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Democracy Commission, signed by all political parties, also supports these expectations. It was emphasized that the current process aims to eliminate the reasons for political detention and that all steps should be taken accordingly.

"THEY SHOULD HAVE ALREADY REGAINED THEIR FREEDOM"

Stating that everyone unjustly held inside simply for expressing their opinions and exercising their right to engage in politics should be freed as soon as possible, Dogan said, "Demirtas and Yuksekdag should have already been released and regained their freedom. Those for whom there is an ECHR decision should not be held inside for even a second longer. We also want this to happen quickly."
