As the conflict between Pakistan and India intensifies, whether Turkey will be involved in these conflicts is being discussed both in Turkey and around the world. Professor Dr. İrfan Kaya Ülger, who was a guest of host Abdurrahman Yazıcı on Haberler.com, clarified the issue. Ülger pointed out that Turkey has close relations with Pakistan and reminded everyone of Turkey's NATO membership.
Pakistan took action after India's airstrikes on Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir on Wednesday. The conflict between the two nuclear-armed countries has raised concerns about nuclear war around the world.
The reasons for the conflict and its potential dimensions were discussed in the program hosted by Abdurrahman Yazıcı on Haberler.com. Prof. Dr. İrfan Kaya Ülger, a faculty member at Kocaeli University, also highlighted the role Turkey could play in this situation.
Host Abdurrahman Yazıcı asked his guest, "Will Turkey become involved in the India-Pakistan conflict directly or indirectly?" Prof. Dr. Ülger reminded that Turkey has close relations with Pakistan and has signed numerous defense agreements with this country. Ülger continued his statement: "We are in very close relations with Pakistan. At one time, Pakistan decided to recognize the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, but later, unable to withstand pressures, froze the implementation of this decision. As of now, we are cooperating in the defense industry. I do not believe that the Pakistan-India dispute will evolve into a full-scale conflict. Even if it does, Turkey will not intervene in the field in favor of Pakistan, but will provide strong diplomatic support to Pakistan. Since Turkey is practically under the NATO umbrella, it will not fully participate in an active conflict."
