Williams Racing Founder Sir Frank Williams Passes Away

Williams was hospitalized on Friday and died at 79 years old, says UK based Formula One team.

The founder and ex-principal of Williams Racing, Sir Frank Williams, died on Sunday, the UK-based Formula One team said.

"It is with great sadness that on behalf of the Williams family, the team can confirm the death of Sir Frank Williams CBE, Founder and Former Team Principal of Williams Racing, at the age of 79," Williams Racing said on Twitter.

Sir Frank, who was the longest-serving F1 team principal, was admitted to a hospital on Friday, the team said, adding: "Frank will be sorely missed."

F1 also expressed its "deep sadness" over Williams' passing.

"His was a life driven by passion for motorsport; his legacy is immeasurable, and will be forever part of F1. To know him was an inspiration and privilege."

Founded by Sir Frank Williams and British engineer Patrick Head, Williams Racing bagged seven Drivers' World Championships and nine Constructors' titles after being established in 1977.

The British team had 114 race wins in the F1 in this term.

This year, Williams Racing is represented by British driver George Russell and Canada's Nicholas Latifi. -
