The Istanbul Regional Court of Appeal overturned the conviction of Galatasaray Secretary General Eray Yazgan for the charge of "violating Law No. 7258" and ruled for his acquittal.

The conviction decision against Eray Yazgan, the General Secretary of Galatasaray Sports Club, regarding the allegation of "violation of Law No. 7258" has been overturned. The 32nd Criminal Chamber of the Istanbul Regional Court of Appeals ruled for Yazgan's acquittal.

THE APPEAL COURT OVERTURNED THE DECISION

The appeal court examining the case stated that there was no evidence indicating that Eray Yazgan acted with the intent to commit a crime. In line with this assessment, the conviction decision made by the local court was overturned, and an acquittal decision was issued for Yazgan.

WHAT IS LAW NO. 7258?

Law No. 7258 regulates the unauthorized operation of fixed-odds or pool betting based on sports competitions and games of chance as a crime. This crime occurs in cases of direct organization of illegal betting activities or any involvement in this process.

DURSUN ÖZBEK HAD SUPPORTED

Galatasaray President Dursun Özbek had expressed his support for Eray Yazgan in his statement during the ordinary general assembly meeting in January. Özbek stated that Yazgan was penalized solely because he was the authorized signatory and expressed his belief that the higher court would overturn the decision.
