The salary crisis continues in the CHP-led Karşıyaka Municipality in İzmir. Workers who are members of Genel-İş once again took to the streets, stating that they have not received their salaries for 7 months, and protested against the municipality. The workers marched in Karşıyaka Bazaar and distributed leaflets, chanting slogans such as "We do not want our salaries in installments, the workers of Karşıyaka are not slaves." Stating that they are owed approximately 400,000 TL per person, the workers called out to the authorities, saying, "We want our rights, not charity."

Workers of Karşıyaka Municipality Kent A.Ş., organized under the İSK/Genel-İş İzmir Branch 10, gathered at the entrance of Karşıyaka Bazaar to announce their financial crisis and grievances to the public. Distributing brochures to citizens, the workers stated that the ongoing salary crisis for months has brought their lives to an unsustainable point.

DIFFERENCES HAVE NOT BEEN PAID

In the statement titled "What Does the Worker of Karşıyaka Municipality Kent A.Ş. Experience, Do You Know?", it was emphasized that the workers have never received full salaries in the last 5 years. It was noted that salaries have not been paid during the 7-month period since July, and that the differences from the collective labor agreement (CLA) dating back 2 years have also remained unpaid.

In the statement, it was recorded that the total receivables of the workers have reached an average of 400,000 TL per person, and the following expressions were included:

"By depositing a weekly allowance of 5-6 thousand TL, we workers are expected to survive. These are not just numbers. There are workers who cannot give pocket money to their children, who have no peace at home, who are on the verge of divorce, who are facing foreclosure, and even those who have fallen into loan sharking. We have to work during the day at the municipality and do side jobs at night."

"WE WANT OUR RIGHTS"

Addressing the people of Karşıyaka, the workers reminded that they continue to produce services despite all the impossibilities they face. Stating that their demands are not for additional pay but for net salaries that correspond to their labor, the employees said, "There is no labor without pay. We want our rights, not charity. We demand full salaries, not allowances. We invite all the people of Karşıyaka to join our voice."

During the distribution of the statement, which also attracted the attention of the bazaar tradesmen and citizens, the workers expressed that they would continue their democratic protests until a permanent solution to their problems is found.
