World Crude Steel Production Reaches 148.1M Tons In January

Total output of 71 countries shows 1.6% annual drop, according to World Steel Association data.

World crude steel production reached 148.1 million tons this January, according to World Steel Association (worldsteel) data released on Friday.

A total of 71 countries reporting to wordsteel registered a 1.6% year-on-year decrease in crude steel production, the data said.

Among the world's top 10 steel producers, Iran saw the largest annual rise with 39.3% to 2.6 million tons in 2023.

As for the world's number one steel producer, China saw an annual drop of 6.9% in January with 77.2 million tons produced.

India, second on the list, saw a 7.3% yearly rise in its steel production, capped at 12.5 million tons.

Number three on the list, Japan, calculated a 0.6% annual bump in steel production, with 7.3 million tons.

The figure for the US, however, was down 0.3% year-on-year with 6.8 million tons produced.

Türkiye, the world's number seven crude steel producer, saw a 24.7% annual jump in January in its steel output, reaching 3.2 million tons. -
