NATO SECRETARY GENERAL: ZELENSKY MUST REPAIR HIS RELATIONS WITH TRUMP
In an interview with the BBC, Rutte mentioned that he spoke with Zelensky twice on the phone following the tensions that occurred at the White House between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Rutte also noted that he spoke with President Trump on the phone, but he did not have the authority to disclose what was discussed during those conversations. However, he conveyed that he told Zelensky, "Trump's contributions to Ukraine so far should be respected." Rutte emphasized that President Trump's rights must be acknowledged.
"THE U.S., UKRAINE, AND EUROPE MUST ACT TOGETHER"
Mark Rutte described the argument that took place yesterday between Trump and Zelensky as "unfortunate" and stated that they need to repair their relationship. Rutte said, "It is important for Zelensky to find a way to re-establish his relations with the U.S. President and the senior American leadership team."
Mark Rutte noted that he raised this issue during his phone conversations with Zelensky and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The NATO Secretary General stated, "I spoke with Zelensky twice on the phone. I told him: To achieve lasting peace for Ukraine, we must act together as the U.S., Ukraine, and Europe."
Additionally, Rutte recalled that during Trump's first term from 2017 to 2020, the U.S. approved the sale of the Javelin anti-tank missile system, which allowed Ukraine to respond to Russia.
