In an incident that tugged at the heartstrings in Ankara, a dog that was tied to the back of a truck and dragged for meters by its owner was saved from the brink of death thanks to the intervention of bystanders. While the severely injured dog was taken under treatment, the reactions to the incident grew exponentially. Following the event that caused public outrage, famous singer Seren Serengil announced that she had adopted the abused dog.
A dog that was dragged for meters by its owner, who tied it to the back of a truck in the Yenimahalle district of Ankara, was rescued by the intervention of nearby citizens. While the driver, who was taken into custody after the incident, was sent to the courthouse, the severely injured dog was adopted by famous singer Seren Serengil.
The incident occurred yesterday afternoon in the Çiğdemtepe neighborhood. Those who noticed the dog tied by its neck to the back of the truck and being dragged on the ground stopped the vehicle. Upon citizens' notification, police and teams from the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Veterinary Affairs Directorate were dispatched to the scene. The driver, who was the focus of the reactions, was taken into custody by the police.
"THERE IS A SERIOUS RISK OF INTERNAL BLEEDING"
The injured dog was taken to the Sincan Street Animal Shelter and Rehabilitation Center, which belongs to the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, for treatment. Veterinarian Duygu Gizem Orhan stated that the 7-month-old dog was found to have a serious risk of internal bleeding due to being dragged, as well as head trauma, jaw damage, infected wounds, and soft tissue injuries.
Orhan said, "It came in a very traumatic way, but despite this, it is extremely affectionate. Its treatment is ongoing meticulously. We must not forget that street animals are also living beings."
SEREN SERENGIL ADOPTED
After the incident drew great reactions on social media, famous singer and presenter Seren Serengil announced that she had adopted the dog. Serengil stated, "These images are a very bad example for children. There must be deterrent penalties for animal cruelty. In Europe, there are severe penalties for these crimes. I couldn't stand it any longer; I am adopting it. From now on, it will have a beautiful life, and I will make it forget the pains it has experienced," she expressed. Serengil mentioned that she would take the dog, which she named Kadir, once its treatment is completed.
THE DRIVER WAS SENT TO THE COURTHOUSE
The driver S.E., who was determined to have tortured the dog, was sent to the courthouse after his procedures at the police station. The judicial process regarding the incident is ongoing.
