"PROMOTING HAZELNUTS IS VERY IMPORTANT"
Hamza Bölük, the President of the Giresun Commodity Exchange, told AA correspondent that Turkey's export destinations are the same countries. Bölük stated that Turkey needs to find new hazelnut markets and expressed that there are initiatives in this direction.
"WE ARE INITIATING FOR NEW MARKETS"
Indicating that they are conducting promotional and marketing activities in the countries they have identified, Bölük made the following assessment:
"We ensure that the representatives of our member companies have face-to-face meetings with companies in the countries we visit and make commercial agreements. We participate in trade fairs held in these countries. We have initiatives to gain new markets here. We bring buyers from those countries to our own country to show them the production and processing of hazelnuts. We try to ensure that they purchase hazelnuts."
"THE US MARKET IS STILL EMPTY"
Bölük emphasized that the USA, South America, and especially East Asian countries are very important markets for Turkish hazelnuts, and continued:
"Traditional hazelnut exports or sales have reached or are close to saturation. Today, Europe has reached its capacity for hazelnuts. Promoting hazelnuts is very important. Our primary goal is to export to countries where people do not know hazelnuts. Hazelnuts are not consumed as much as desired in the USA. The US market is still empty. In addition, the South American market, particularly in countries like Brazil and Argentina, needs to promote hazelnuts. Furthermore, East Asia is an emerging market. We need to add India alongside China, Japan, and Korea. There is a need for promotion and products that will increase hazelnut consumption in these areas. We should strive to sell hazelnuts not as a whole but as value-added products.
