In the investigation into the death of Rojin Kabaiş, a student at Van Yüzüncü Yıl University, access to the mobile phone sent to Spain could not be obtained. The young girl's father, who spoke with the authorities, said, "So far, they have examined the DNA of 195 people. I also told the chief prosecutor, I wrote a petition in Diyarbakır and sent it to Van. The DNA of all the men in Mollakasım and Bardakçı villages, as well as those at the university, needs to be examined."

Rojin Kabaiş, a student at Van Yüzüncü Yıl University (YYÜ), was reported missing after leaving the dormitory on September 27, 2024. Following the announcement that access to the mobile phone sent to Spain for examination could not be obtained, her father Nizamettin Kabaiş, who came to Van, met with the prosecution officials. Kabaiş stated that a specialized team should be established for the investigation, saying, "If the phone could be accessed, it would be a hope for us. Besides that, there are necessary works to be done."

Rojin Kabaiş, a first-year student in the Department of Child Development at YYÜ Faculty of Education, was found dead on October 15 at the shore of Mollakasım neighborhood by Lake Van. In the report submitted to the case by the Forensic Medicine Institution's Biological Specialization Department on October 10, it was stated that DNA belonging to two different males was detected in the chest and vaginal area of Kabaiş. A comprehensive DNA screening was conducted for individuals who may have come into contact with the body during the transfer process to the Forensic Medicine Institution Van Group Presidency Morgue Specialization Department. Initially, the DNA profiles of 134 individuals were compared, and this number was later increased to 195. DNA samples were also taken from university and dormitory security personnel, while Rojin Kabaiş's mobile phone was sent to Spain for examination about three months ago.

The Van Bar Association announced yesterday that in the latest report regarding the mobile phone sent for examination, it was stated that full access to the device could not be obtained and only a partial content examination could be conducted. The statement emphasized the importance of examining digital data in a complete and verifiable manner to reveal the material truth, and it was expressed that the process would be closely monitored.

Nizamettin Kabaiş, Rojin Kabaiş's father, came to Van today and met with the prosecution officials. Kabaiş stated that the password of the mobile phone could not be solved, saying, "It was sent to Spain three months ago, but unfortunately, the password could not be solved. The phone has returned. We also met with the prosecution today. If the phone could be accessed, it would be a hope for us. Besides that, there are necessary works to be done. I also told the chief prosecutor. The important thing is to conduct studies related to the identified DNA."

"DNA OF 195 PEOPLE EXAMINED"

Kabaiş stated that there has been no match in the DNA examinations conducted so far, saying, "They first told us there was a possibility of contamination. They looked at everyone who came into contact with the body, and there was no match. The DNA of our relatives and the children present there was also examined, and there was no match with any of them. So far, they have looked at the DNA of 195 people. I also told the chief prosecutor, I wrote a petition in Diyarbakır and sent it to Van. The DNA of all men in Mollakasım and Bardakçı villages and the university should be examined. This is very important. If it is not investigated this way, we cannot get anywhere," he said.

"AN EXPERT TEAM SHOULD BE ASSIGNED"

Kabaiş, who requested the establishment of a specialized team to investigate the incident, said, "My daughter was also a university student, she was going to study, she was going to be a teacher. She would have been beneficial to this country and this state. But unfortunately, they are not investigating the cause of death. I keep asking the same question; 'What happened to Rojin, what happened to Rojin?' Two years have passed, maybe those killers have gone abroad. It should be ensured that the DNA of all men in both villages and the university is examined. The villagers should not misunderstand me; they are my crown. Of course, there are elderly, valuable people, they should not misunderstand. Because the incident happened there. Everyone is suspicious where the incident occurred. Everyone's DNA should be examined. It will definitely lead to something," he said.
